Educational Justice Month

April 21, 2024

There are a number of ways you can support educational justice now and in the coming months. Get a jump start on "Educational Justice Month" that will launch at MPBC in May! We'll have opportunities to deepen your awareness of the issues; engage in action as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week at Pinewood and launch Freedom School volunteer efforts for the summer; and connect our service to advocacy through voting on educational issues in the November election! Here are ways to jump in:

Awareness

May Sage-ing Luncheon on Tuesday, May 7 at noon
Join Alexis Young from Freedom School Partners and Laura Handler from MPBC as we connect our current engagement at Pinewood to Freedom Schools started in the summer of 1964. We'll examine educational issues past and present related to racial and economic [in]justices. Then learn how you can volunteer with FSP this summer!

Action

May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week!
We are grateful to our members who have been appreciating and supporting classroom teachers at Pinewood all year long. Additionally, we will provide breakfast for staff during this week. Please contact Laura Handler ( ) to help serve or contribute financially.

Freedom School will run from June 17 to July 25. Explore opportunities listed here to engage with scholars and their families in a number of ways--behind the scenes or directly at Pinewood! This landing page has sign-ups for most roles this summer. The summer Finale will be in Heaton Hall on July 25 - sign up for this special event here!

Advocacy

Visit our table after worship on Sundays in May to learn about more ways to advocate for various educational issues on the ballot in November!

Connect with Karen Taylor, Nancy Hudson, Cindy Adcock, or Laura Handler for any of these educational justice initiatives!

Thanks for your support!
