Children

Discovering God's dream...

for the world.

For our neighbors.

For you.

The Children’s Ministry of Myers Park Baptist Church is a welcoming and affirming place for all children from birth through those who have completed fifth grade. Through a variety of methods and experiences, we help children discover their part in making God’s dream for the world come true by showing love, justice, and mercy to all the world. Our goal is to walk with children and their families through the stages of childhood, creating community for all. And we hope you will join us on the journey!

As a child, I did not know just how different our church was until I grew up and experienced other churches.

Sunday

Mornings

Birth through Kindergarten

On Sundays, we provide nursery childcare for children from birth through kindergarten. During this time, your mind can be at ease because skilled staff and compassionate volunteers, all of whom are background checked, care for your children.

Nursery | 8 weeks old until walking | Nursery

This room is a child’s introduction to church. Here they will be cared for by trained workers who give the very best care. Families are asked to bring all necessary items to the nursery (diapers, bottles, etc). The room offers a split space, one for playing and interacting; one for sleeping and nursing mothers.  Once a child is walking they are transitioned out of this room.

Toddlers and Twos | Walking until Third Birthday | Room 105

Children in this room are introduced to the basic Bible stories while being in the care of trained childcare providers. With a classroom and playground designed just for this age group, children are invited to explore and learn in a safe loving environment. Families are asked to send snacks for their children in this class.

Threes | Room 107

This is the age when we begin doing full Christian Education. Teaching through a stories, play, and art children are taught the stories of the Christian faith in a way that is age appropriate. The classroom and playground and geared towards engaging the child’s entire being.

Fours – Kindergarten | Room 108

Designed for children who are preparing or already in Kindergarten this class teaches children the stories of the Christian faith as well as helping them understand the characteristics of a follower of Christ.

First through Fifth Graders

We invite children in first through fifth grade to worship with the larger congregation each Sunday because we believe their presence reflects the presence of God. Children will come to the Sanctuary for worship & sit with their families. They will leave with with leaders before the sermon & return at the final hymn for pick up. During this time, they will engage their minds, hearts, & bodies in an experience that is designed just for them.

Spiritual

Growth

Our life impacts our faith and our faith impacts our life. We want to make sure that our children are engaging their faith as invidiuals and together.

Children's spiritual growth classes are divided up by age to ensure that children are taught in an age-appropriate way. Children engage with a different Bible story or concept each week while they deepen their relationships with one another and God. Children are encouraged to ask questions and dig into their faith, making it their own. Parents are encouraged to stop by the Parent Connection Station at the top of the stairs to get a copy a “Who Is My Child’s Leader.”

First & Second Grades: Room 209
Third & Fourth Grades: Room 211
Fifth Grade: Room 208

Music

We hope to provide our children every opportunity to connect with a community of peers and adults who love them and accept them. Our Children's Music programming is just that: a safe, loving, and fun place where children can learn about music through experiences singing, playing instruments, dancing, and playing musical games. While our children's musical groups participate in worship services from time to time, that is not a requirement for participation. If you belong to another religious organization or are not religious but want your child to have a great musical experience, all are welcome here!

This Winter's Theme

Acts of service

Last fall we focused on our inner world, exploring our gifts, and strengths and building relationships and inner confidence. This winter we will be exploring needs outside of ourselves and ways to give through acts of service. We'll learn about activists and organizations that help others and discover ways that we can be of service to our families, schools, churches, and our community.

everybody can sing!

BIG or small LOUD or soft. everyBODY was made to SPEAK! SING! And SHOUT!! In our greatest joys and in deepest reflection we use our voices to project our most important thoughts and create a sense of belonging within our community. At MPBC we encourage everyBODY to sing their unique song because MUSIC is for everyBODY♥️

Everybody can move!

ROUND or lean, TALL or small, everyBODY can MOVE. Whether running, stretching, jumping, dancing, skipping or standing in complete stillness, your body is creative and expressive. It can be funny, serious, silly, bold and strong all at once! At MPBC we encourage everyBODY to be expressive because MOVEMENT is for everyBODY♥️

Everybody can create!

BRIGHT or moody, thin lines or broad strokes, everyBODY is creative. Physical expression of creative thought connects mind and body and speaks volumes! Painting, crafting, mixed media, improvisation, and songwriting will all take the center stage in our work together. At MPBC we encourage everyBODY to put beauty and artistry into the world, because CREATIVITY is for everyBODY♥️

Everybody can play!

WILD or quiet, structured or explorative -being playful and curious are the building blocks to good emotional health. It's how we communicate our needs when we are small and create community as we grow. Together, we will explore PLAY through creative dance, art, instruments and more. At MPBC we encourage everyBODY to be playful and free because JOY is for everyBODY♥️

Special

Events

Each October we have our annual Halloween Festival. Children are invited to dress in costume and trick or treat around the inside of the Church. Games and other activities are also a part of this church-wide evening.

The weekend before Easter, we will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the bunny trail around our campus. It’s a fun event for children and adults!

Family

Resources

Throughout the year, the Children's Ministry offers socials for parents and families. Our goal is for kids and their parents to have community in a way that few other spaces offer.

We have four socials a year: two for the whole family and two just for adults. Be on the lookout for more information!
