Transition Team Highlight: Worship & Music

by Transition Team on August 03, 2025

Following last week’s update on Intellectual Focus and Institution/Sustainability. This week’s summary is the feedback around Worship and Music.

The comments came in response to our questions:

1) What brought you here in the past and what keeps you here at MPBC?

  • music and worship that stirs the soul
  • dynamic preaching
  • thought provoking leadership
  • deep questions welcomed
  • LGBT+ affirming
  • tradition of a free pulpit
  • alternative worship styles
  • strong women leaders
  • a beautiful and restful sanctuary
  • strong liturgy
  • change vs. familiar

2) What keeps us anchored?

  • great choir
  • our own hymnal (w/hymns of Dr. Dan White)
  • outstanding music ministers
  • beautiful music selections
  • wonderful symphonic accompaniments

3) What concerns us?

  • maintaining financial support to have an excellent music program.

4) What are our hopes & possibilities?

  • expanding the choir
  • developing choirs for all ages/groups

5) What are the next steps?

As in a family when conflicts, misunderstandings and disappointments arise, we need to have ways to reconcile our differences. Our Transition Team is working to suggest ways members feeling anger, anxiety, resentment, and grief might express and restore relationships.

To prepare for next week AND the Transition Team all-church conversation meeting, we ask you to consider this question:

“WHAT IS OUR CHURCH’S PURPOSE?”

After service, please thank our ministers and musicians for the wonderful Heritage of Worship and Music they have provided us.
