What is an Intentional Interim Minister?

From the Interim Search Committee: Introducing the Intentional Interim Ministry
As your Interim Search Committee, we're excited to share an important update regarding our pastoral transition. We understand that periods of change can bring about questions and even some anxieties. To ensure a smooth and productive time, we've determined the need for an intentional interim ministry. This means more than simply filling the pulpit; it's about preparing for our future.
An intentional interim minister is a specially trained pastor who guides congregations through transitions with a focus on reflection, renewal, and future planning. They'll provide pastoral care, preach, teach, and lead administratively, just as a regular pastor would. However, their primary focus will be on helping us as a church:
- Discover our story: They will facilitate conversations about our history, our strengths, and what makes our church unique. This helps us understand who we are as a community of faith.
- Heal and grow: They will help us address any lingering issues or conflicts, fostering unity and creating a welcoming environment for all.
- Discern our future: They will guide us in exploring our mission and vision, helping us clarify our purpose and what we hope to achieve in the years to come.
- Prepare for new leadership: Crucially, they will assist us in defining the qualities and skills we seek in our next pastor, ensuring a better fit and a smoother transition when the time comes.
It's important to understand that the intentional interim minister is not a candidate for our permanent pastoral position. Their calling is to serve us during this specific period of transition, providing objective guidance and support. They are a bridge between our past and our future.
We believe this approach is essential for the health and vitality of our church. We are confident that the intentional interim ministry will be a blessing to us all as we prepare for the next chapter in our church's story. We look forward to sharing more information about our interim minister soon.
Sincerely,
Your Interim Search Committee
