Reception Refresh: Come See What's New
We are pleased to share that we have completed the transformation of our church office space with the addition of a newly designed reception area. This welcoming space marks an important step in creating a more accessible, hospitable, and organized experience for all who enter our education building.
As part of this transition, we invite all visitors to enter through the Heaton Hall entrance, where they will be warmly greeted by one of two new members of our administrative team, Barbie Halpern and Sam Boulanger. Each will serve two days per week in the reception area. In addition to supporting a variety of administrative needs across campus, Barbie and Sam will serve as the first point of contact for members and guests alike—offering directions, assistance, and a warm welcome to all who enter our doors.
Along with these updates, we are also adjusting our office hours to better support the rhythm of our staff’s work. Beginning immediately, the church office will be open:
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday mornings will be reserved for staff meetings, while some additional work throughout the week may continue remotely depending on individual schedules and responsibilities.
This new reception area reflects our ongoing commitment to hospitality and thoughtful stewardship of our shared spaces. We are especially excited for you to get to know the friendly faces who will now help welcome our congregation and visitors each week.
Sam Boulanger has called Charlotte home for the past two and a half years after relocating from the Bay Area of California with her dog, Tonka. She also works at Myers Park Country Club and enjoys staying connected to the Charlotte Christian community by supporting athletes. She previously coached at meets and practices. In her free time, Sam enjoys discovering local coffee shops, spending time outdoors with Tonka, and building meaningful friendships throughout the city. She shares that she looks forward to meeting members of the congregation and continuing to build community together.
Barbie Halpern has lived in Charlotte for more than 35 years and is married with two children, ages 18 and 20. As she prepares to become an empty nester next fall, Barbie says the opportunity to work part-time with Myers Park Baptist Church and Cornwell “just fell into place.” When she is not working, she enjoys running, playing tennis, taking classes at Cornwell, and spending plenty of time with her nine-year-old Australian Shepherd. Barbie says she feels very fortunate to join the church staff in this new role.
