Get Your MOJO On: Green Spaces, Blue Spaces, Good Trouble!

August 30, 2026

Did you know that spending just 17 intentional minutes a day in green spaces (think trees, gardens, and parks) or blue spaces (lakes, rivers, and streams) can lower your risk of premature death by as much as 23%? Nature is good for the soul, the mind, and apparently, longevity too!

That's why MOJO is offering two fantastic, family-friendly opportunities this fall to get outside, give back, and enjoy some of the beautiful natural spaces in our community.

Planting Day at Pinewood

Saturday, September 19 | 8:00-11:00 a.m.

Help us bring new life to the Pinewood garden beds! Join us in this beautiful green space for a morning of planting, connecting, and getting your hands a little dirty for a great cause. Feel free to bring gardening tools if you have them, and drop by anytime between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Catawba RiverSweep Cleanup

Saturday, October 3 | 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

MOJO has reserved 24 spots for the annual Catawba RiverSweep cleanup. We'll be working along the scenic Sugar Creek Greenway off Brandywine Road, directly behind Park Road Shopping Center, caring for both green and blue spaces that enrich our community.

To reserve your spot, email Paula Fricke by September 11. After the cleanup, we'll gather for lunch and fellowship together.

Make a Difference Beyond the Outdoors

While you're extending your lifespan, why not help make those extra years even more meaningful?

MOJO's nonpartisan Get Out the Vote initiative is continuing to build momentum. Together, we've already written more than 700 postcards to first-time Charlotte voters, and we're now expanding our efforts through voter registration, canvassing, and providing rides to the polls.

Whether your passion is caring for creation, strengthening democracy, or simply connecting with your community, there's a place for you.

To learn more about any of these opportunities, contact Paula Fricke.

Let's care for our neighbors, our environment, and our future. Most importantly, let's all Get Our MOJO On!
