A New Chapter for Our Landscape

April 12, 2026

All Hands On Deck

We’ve all noticed our struggling landscape—struggling under the combined weight of clay soils, large tree shade, exposure, nutrient competition, and the summer heat.

In September, an armada of interested members will descend on our campus, not to reseed the lawn, but to introduce new plants that can survive, even thrive in desolate conditions — not in the lawn areas, but in its “corners,” ie, where sidewalks intersect. Being hearty and not requiring much care, native ground cover and perennials will be used.

Everyone has an opinion regarding plants. Now’s your chance to voice (and implement) your vision of MPBC’s future landscape. A committee of members with interest and knowledge of landscaping is being formed to begin the planning process. If you would like to be considered for this committee, please contact Joe Spencer. The committee will discuss options during a planning period, arrange for the plants (through purchase or donation) and install the plantings.

This project has two objectives:
1) Reinvigorate the campus landscape and
2) Bring a large portion of our membership together in a project that will have long term, measurable results.

Think of this as an old-fashioned barn raising, so we’ll need lots of help in any capacity.

If you would like to be part of the Planning, Managing, or Installation for this project, please contact Joe Spencer.
