What are you giving your attention to?

With the midterm elections approaching and political division fueling anxiety, it can be easy to become consumed by everything that feels troubling, uncertain, or beyond our control. But while we may not be able to control the divisions around us, we can choose what shapes us within them.

This Sunday, Rev. Dr. Tim Moore begins our new sermon series, Hope in a Sea of Political Division, with “Joy Scrolling.” Drawing from Paul’s words to the Philippians, we’ll explore how intentionally turning our attention toward what is honorable, just, and worthy can become a practice of hope.

Pastors Notes
The mid-term elections are less than a month away and many of us are feeling a rising anxiety about how they will go. How do we develop hope within these politically divisive times that feel so dark? We have very little control over the societal divisions being driven by politics in our nation, but we are not powerless. We have complete control in how we regulate ourselves in this divisive context. The place where we start developing hope is within us. Paul’s letter offers us one avenue for developing hope. He calls us to spend our time thinking about honorable things.
