What does it mean to live what we believe?
Jesus' answer is challenging. It means taking up our cross and following him. Not simply affirming values but embodying them.
In a culture that often prioritizes individualism, Jesus calls us into a deeper understanding of connection. Our lives are intertwined with one another, with our communities, and with all creation.
This Sunday, Rev. Dr. Tim Moore explores why faith must be lived, not merely professed, and what it means to build communities that reflect our deepest convictions.
Part 4 of our series, Being a Liberal, 21st Century Church, considers how community shapes who we are and how we live.
Join us for worship at 10 a.m. in person or online.
Immediately following worship, continue the conversation at Sermon Talk Back, a beloved MPBC tradition where questions, insights, and real-world connections are welcomed in an open and thoughtful discussion.

Preacher's Note:
There’s no place for limousine liberal Christians in the 21st century. We must live what we believe, or no one will care what we believe. Jesus thinks this means to carry our cross. On the cross Jesus deeply connected God with humanity. In this death, God experienced the suffering and isolation (My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?) so many in this world experience.
One of the great shifts of the past couple generations has emphasized individuality at the expense of community. Can liberal Christianity champion individual agency while emphasizing our connection to community? All of life is interconnected. The great scientific breakthroughs all speak to this reality. We are all inhabitants on the spaceship Earth and all of nature operates in an equilibrium. Spray pesticides on crops and you kill the insects you need as much as the ones you don’t like, which affects pollination and kills the birds and so on and so forth. Liberal churches work to build community, to justly work to connect all people and with all of creation. [Community]
