Sept 27 | Sacred beginning | Genesis 1:26-31
Commentary: This scripture presents humanity as created in the image of God, which grounds human dignity not in achievement, status, body, gender expression, or social approval, but in God’s creative delight. The passage also moves from identity to vocation: people are blessed and entrusted with care for the earth and its creatures, so “dominion” is best read as responsible stewardship rather than domination. For a group exploring faith, identity, and belonging, this text can invite participants to consider what it means to receive themselves and others as “very good,” while also asking how sacred identity leads to faithful care, justice, and mutual flourishing.
