The congregation’s spirit of hospitality and service continued to shape its life together, while friendships deepened and new ministries emerged.

A Joyful Homecoming: Bob and Katherine Porschke Return
One of the year’s most joyful moments was the return of Bob and Katherine Porschke and their family to Charlotte after a year of study. Their homecoming was welcomed with gratitude, as Bob resumed his leadership in worship and music, bringing both experience and enthusiasm to the church’s ministry.

Music That Inspires: Harvey Woodruff’s Recognition Beyond Our Walls
The church also continued to gain recognition beyond its own walls. In April, Minister of Music Harvey Woodruff was honored with an invitation to lead at the First Methodist Church—a mark of respect for his artistry and for the quality of the church’s music program, even after only a short time in Charlotte.

Expanding Our Reach: Supporting a New Congregation on Providence Road
In August, Associate Pastor Rev. Harold Malmborg announced the church’s support for the organization of a new congregation on Providence Road, reflecting the church’s ongoing commitment to nurture growth and outreach within the wider Baptist community.

Deepening Faith: Dr. Heaton’s Call to Intentional Commitment
Throughout the year, members were encouraged to reflect deeply on their faith commitments and to participate more fully in the life of the church. In his summer message, Dr. Heaton reached out personally to those exploring membership and baptism, inviting them into a more intentional engagement with the community’s shared spiritual journey.

1953 stands out as a year of reconnection and renewal—a time when friendships, music, and mission strengthened the church’s foundation for years to come.
