Children's Ministry: "Players" at MPBC

FOOTBALL!
With the advent of football season, I recently watched a video of Nick Saban telling the story of the first lesson he learned about coaching football (no judgement here – Dianne is a graduate of the University of Alabama).
"I was a fifteen-year-old quarterback of our high school football team. It was the last game of the regular season. If we won, we would go to the playoffs. I called all the plays as a sophomore quarterback; can you believe that? We were behind 18-12 with very little time left in the fourth quarter. It was fourth and twelve. Thankfully, the coach called our final time out.
“'What play should we run?' I asked.
“'The play that you call,' he said. We have the fastest running back in the state and one of the best wide receivers. I don’t care what play you call, but the ball needs to go to one of them.'
“Well, I faked it to the running back and threw it to the wide receiver. We scored and won the game. After the game, I got my first lesson about coaching.
“'When the game is on the line, Nicky, you don’t think about plays, you think about players,' Coach said."
When I heard this story, I thought of MPBC. She has some great “players.” The most important thing is for them to get involved. I’m thinking of Rev. Sharon Doar, Eve Bilbery, Martha Abernethy, Amy Johnson, and others. None of them has elementary-age children. But they are imagining lots of children at Myers Park Baptist and preparing accordingly. They are imagining a fresh start, preparing rooms, signing up other “players,” securing the appropriate curriculum, etc. They definitely ARE “players.”
If MPBC is, once again, going to have vibrant and growing ministries across the board, it is going to require our “players” to step up and get in the “game.” I’m thankful for these women and their willingness to do the necessary work. We are most fortunate. When will more “players” sign up and show up?
I’m thankful to share life and ministry with you
