Children's Ministry Creative Journey to Bethlehem
This season, our children eagerly looked forward to gathering each week for Children’s Spiritual Growth, where they prepared their hearts for Christmas by learning about the birth of Christ.
Together, they explored the journey Mary and Joseph would have taken from Nazareth to Bethlehem, studying maps to understand the distance and terrain. They learned about the climate and landscape of the region, examined artists’ renderings of ancient villages, and discovered how people dressed during that time.
Building on this knowledge, the children embarked on a multi-week project to create a model of Bethlehem. They shaped the landscape, constructed houses, and dressed villagers in period-appropriate attire. Finally, they placed Mary and Joseph at the humble manger surrounded by visitors who came to witness the miracle of Christ’s birth.
Through this hands-on experience, our children not only learned history they deepened their understanding of the Christmas story and its meaning for us today.
