A Day to Remember: The Sage-ing Day Trip to Flat Rock

On a bright and breezy spring day, a group of enthusiastic church members set off on a much-anticipated adventure to the renowned Flat Rock Playhouse to see the Tony Award-winning musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. This day trip, organized as part of our Sage-ing ministry events, offered not just a journey to a show, but a beautiful day of fellowship, music, and discovery.

The church bus departed promptly at 9:30 am from the Roswell parking lot, filled with excitement and anticipation. Seats filled quickly, with everyone eager to spend a day together experiencing a blend of culture and community.

Before reaching the theater, we made a delicious lunch stop at Dairi-O, a regional favorite known for its classic burgers, hot dogs, fresh salads, and famously friendly service. It was a hit with everyone—simple, tasty, and perfect for our journey.

We also took time to stretch our legs and soak in some natural beauty at The Park at Flat Rock, a 66-acre park that was once a golf course and has been thoughtfully transformed into a peaceful green space. With walking trails, meadows, and water features, the park offered us a tranquil pause and an opportunity to connect with nature—and each other.

The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, performed at the historic Flat Rock Playhouse, North Carolina’s official State Theatre. The musical tells the inspiring story of Carole King, one of the most successful singer-songwriters of all time, whose songs—like "You've Got a Friend", "A Natural Woman", and "It's Too Late"—have touched millions. The performance was moving, uplifting, and full of toe-tapping music that brought back memories for many of us. With powerful vocals, vibrant choreography, and a heartfelt story of personal and artistic growth, the cast delivered a performance that left the entire audience on their feet.

What made the day truly special was the laughter, the shared stories, and the time spent together. Whether reminiscing about songs from the past or simply enjoying the ride, it was a day filled with warmth, friendship, and joy. This trip reminded us all that no matter our age, adventure, music, and good company are ingredients for a truly beautiful day.
