You are cordially invited to join staff members and fellow church members for an opportunity to gather for lunch and a time for fellowship and discussion. This lunch is open to everyone in the congregation who is 55+.
Date | January 6, 2026
Time | 12 - 1:30 pm
Location | Heaton Hall
Speakers | Betsy Thigpen, Rev. Gary Hudson, and the Sage-ing Committee
Join us at our January Sage-ing Luncheon as Betsy Thigpen, Gary Hudson, and the Sage-ing Committee share plans for 2026 on how MPBC might REIMAGINE the issue of aging and MOVING FROM SENIOR TO ELDER AT MPBC. Recognizing that most of us will live 25 to 30 years following retirement, a significant question becomes, “What will each of us do with that significant gift of additional time?”
We’ll have some fun with a PowerPoint presentation helping us to look at ourselves and asking the question, “IS THAT ALL THERE IS?” and then more seriously, considering ten Development Steps for the Third Stage of Life.
Bring your questions and your ideas for an innovative and creative MPBC Sage-ing Initiative for 2026.
Please remember to call or go online through Realm to make your reservation.
Lunch Menu | Barbeque Chicken Breast, Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad, Pecan Pie
The lunch costs $15 and will include a variety of options including vegetarian. Feel free to bring your own lunch, if you prefer.
NOTE - We need everyone to RSVP whether you are ordering lunch or bringing your own so that we can properly prepare for everyone.
A little more about the Sage-ing Initiative
Members of our congregation have raised the need for more intentional programming for seniors. A team of senior adults plan monthly lunches with staff for fellowship, education, relationship building, community, and engagement. These lunches may include speakers, artists, musicians, as well as clergy and staff members to give us all an opportunity to get to know one another better and ask relevant questions related to what’s going on in the life of our church. In addition to the lunches, we may also plan travel trips for senior adults and promote the incredibly important work of eldering that some small groups of our senior adults have been engaged in over the last few years.
