Queens University Rental

April 21, 2024

MPBC and Queens University have a deep and rich partnership going back to MPBC’s founding and it continues to grow and strengthen today. Queens recently entered into a seven-month lease for both office space and classrooms while one of their academic buildings is under renovation. The lease starts on April 23, 2024, and runs through December 31, 2024. The lease agreement totals $160,000, which is significant to MPBC's finances. MPBC already has plans for the funds which will be utilized in the following manner:

  • $10,000: Pay overhead costs for preparation for Queens rental (i.e., furniture removal, painting, cleaning, etc.)
  • $15,000: Set aside 10% of the total costs remaining after overhead as a tithe to Ministry of Justice and Outreach (MOJO)
  • $15,000: Set aside a second 10% of the total costs remaining after overhead as a bonus for staff
  • $120,000: The rest will be put in as income to the general fund to carry MPBC through the lean summer months

Please note that if a surplus remains at the end of the 2024 fiscal year, the ministries will be able to seek surplus dollars via the Surplus Dollars Policy found in the governing documents.

Many thanks to the work and guidance provided by the Facilities Ministry (Suzette Buchan, Lisa Caldwell, and Paul Woody). Additionally, many thanks to the Financial Sustainability Working Group, which created a financial sustainability plan for MPBC in 2021. Those members are Ashley Hardy, Jenny Martella, Pat Brugh, and Jim Wood. Last, but certainly not least, this project may not have occurred without Ben Boswell’s strong ties with Queens University, including President Dan Lugo.

This agreement is significant for MPBC and should be celebrated.
