How Does A Weary World Rejoice?
Advent at Myers Park Baptist Church will be filled with stories of waiting, traversing through difficulties, and finding our joy in the midst of whatever is happening in life. We will have several special services, including,
The service of Lament and Loss on December 3 at 4:00 pm. This is a space for all who have lost loved ones and need to gather as a community to remember and support one another.
On December 10, we will be joined by the Carolina Social Club as they lead us in a Jazz Advent Service.
On December 17, we will celebrate Advent through our time-honored Lessons and Carols service. This service will feature music and readings that tell the Advent and Christmas story. The program is varied and will include everything from Handel to contemporary anthems, gospel, and traditional carols.
Also, join us on Christmas Eve at 10:00 am for our regular Sunday morning service. And of course, the highlight of the season will be our traditional 6:00 Christmas Eve service, featuring special guest musicians, as well as communion and the traditional candle lighting whilst singing Silent Night.
And so, this Advent, we will hold space for our weariness and our joy. We will seek a 'thrill of hope' in our hurting world. We will welcome joy—even if, like the prophet Isaiah, we cry out for comfort (Isaiah 40:1). In this weary world, may we find many ways to rejoice. -Sanctified Art
