We want you to feel comfortable before you arrive on our campus for the first time. Here are some tips that will help ensure your visit to Myers Park Baptist Church is memorable – for all the right reasons!
First things first — coffee.
You may find that the conversations and sermons here are so stimulating that you won’t need caffeine. However, you are welcome to b.y.o.c. to Faith Formation or ask the volunteer at the Welcome Table in Heaton Hall to point you in the direction of our not-so-secret “wall of coffee” located behind the kitchen. There’s also coffee and lemonade provided in Heaton Hall after the service. We just ask that you don’t bring any food or drink into the sanctuary.
There’s a place for everyone on Sunday mornings. See the full list of our Faith Formation offerings, as well as our Small Groups, and other Adult Faith Formation classes or you can stop by the Welcome Table in Heaton Hall once you get settled. If you have specific questions about childcare or activities for your school-aged children, please call Carrie Veal at (704) 334-7232 x 118.
Do I have to get dressed up?
Jesus and his apostles did not have a dress code, so neither do we. You should feel comfortable being yourself here, but you’ll find that most people do get a little spiffed up for Sunday service. Suits and dresses, jeans and t-shirts (G-rated of course – it’s church!) – are all welcome here.
What should we know about the worship service?
Our Sunday worship service has a traditional feel to it, which is a nice counterbalance to our progressive theology. We have a wonderful choir and their musical presentations are always uplifting. We pray together, we sing hymns, we have about a twenty-minute sermon, and we collect a voluntary offering that supports a local nonprofit. Several times a year, we offer communion to all those who would like to partake (any age, regardless of his or her baptismal status). The entire service lasts approximately one hour, though we hope the effects of your time with us will last much, much longer.
Parking is available in the church lot on Roswell Avenue directly behind The Cornwell Center. There’s also street parking on either side of the church (Roswell or Selwyn in front of Queens University). See the map below.
