LEWIS DANCY – Myers Park made me who I am today. I have committed my career to social service largely because of the influence of my church family which raised me along with my family. The commitment of the congregation to raise children in the faith at baby dedication services is very real. In fact, my first nonprofit job after graduating college came through my friendship with fellow member Amorette Pearce. I never asked my grandparents what prompted them to join the church as charter members, but I’m so grateful they did.
My favorite memories are of the friends I made and still cherish. Some of us who live and work in the Triangle started gathering for lunch a few years ago. This past Monday, we met for dinner and invited our parents. Pictured L to R are Lewis Dancy, Gaines Weaver, Cam Cover (formerly Weaver), Ava Ellis-Furlong, Maggie Chotas, Lizzie Ellis-Furlong, Margaret Fields and Diannah Ellis. Not pictured: Jennifer Weaver and her daughter Rosa Lu. Sadly, they had to leave before we thought to get a snap!
