Transition Work Begins

THE WORK OF THE TRANSITION BEGINS!

Thank you to the 64 of you who suggested at least one person to serve on the Transition Team (TT)! You suggested a total of 96, that’s right, 96 persons as potential TT members. Those are remarkable numbers. They indicate your deep interest and commitment to the work in front of us. 

I have asked Scott Crowder (Chair of the Board of Deacons), Carol Reid-Fricke, Janet Miller, and Tucker Pearsall to serve on a team to assist me in sorting through, discerning, and identifying persons from those 95 that will create a balanced, representative TT. Once these potential TT members are identified, I will contact and invite them to a meeting where I will explain the work. Then, I will give them several days to consider and pray regarding their willingness to commit to serving the Lord and you through the TT. I’m encouraged that we have started. Thank you again for your input.

Rev. Dr. Layne Smith has dedicated his career to serving congregations in transition, providing pastoral leadership and guidance to churches across North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. Before stepping into intentional interim ministry in 2009, he was a Senior Pastor for 26 years in Arkansas and North Carolina. He holds a B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University, did graduate work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Baylor University, and earned his M.Div. and D.Min. at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. 

Layne and his wife, Dianne, have been married for over 50 years. They met while students in seminary and have two daughters and four grandchildren. Their family enjoys traveling and exploring international destinations together, and Layne also enjoys playing golf.
