Freedom School Finale 2024
The Pinewood Freedom School Finale filled Heaton Hall with sounds of singing, dancing and a celebration that marked the end of their annual summer program. During these six weeks, MPBC volunteers read to the children, participated in family night, attended field trips, and maybe learned a rap or two through Harambee.
MPBC has been a partner with Freedom School for years – the reason we continue? Children’s lives are changed – their educational outcomes improve and hopefully, lives are changed through the loving care and attention received. Yet – another outcome is also important – the change in each volunteer. As volunteers, we become better educational advocates for all children and recognize the need for more educational resources in our public schools. Dr. Bill Leonard encourages us to no longer “stand by” and let things happen – we are the change we want to see!
