Environmental Justice Sessions Update

March 22, 2025

IN CASE YOU MISSED THEM!

Twenty-four congregants recently participated in a Spiritual Growth class developed by MOJO's Environmental Justice group. We read and studied the NYT best seller, Braiding Sweetgrass, beautifully written by a Syracuse University Botany Professor and Indigenous woman, Robin Kimmerer. We highly recommend it!

We followed that by listening to and discussing three of the SELC's “Broken Ground” podcasts regarding Eastern NC Environmental Injustice communities. Listen Here:

The following Sunday, over 60 of us heard former mayor, Jennifer Roberts, provide a wonderful Environmental Justice 101 class.

That afternoon, participants in EJ's Spiritual Growth class participated in an hour-long Zoom discussion with the key environmental activist from each of the 3 podcasts.

Whether you attended any part of the EJ class, heard Jennifer's presentation or know nothing about Environmental Justice, please join us for our final action event.

Creation Justice Sunday is May 4, 2025

We hope you will join us at 10:00 am in person or online through our livestream. The service will be inspired by Braiding Sweetgrass. Immediately after the service there will be a congregational Creation Justice Action event in Shalom Hall to call your legislator using a script, as well as a Walk for Creation. Pizza will be served during the event. Please add this to your calendars now and look for all details in upcoming Weeklys.
